She’s Lost Controllers: Is a new Joy Division-inspired video game on the way?

UPDATE 3:59pm: The game is apparently live, h/t to Mr. Searles once again. Go play it, and get Hook’d.

Short answer to the question in the headline: Kinda, maybe, we guess? Brad Searles of Bradley’s Almanac just passed along this video game teaser trailer from Mighty Box, which depicts a game called Will Love Tear Us Apart [spoiler alert: it probably will], playfully named after the Manchester post-punk band’s June 1980 single that has endured as one of the greatest songs of the 20th century.

I know next to nothing about video games unless it’s the ’90s NHL series for Sega Genesis, but the game’s Facebook page says this: “Will Love Tear Us Apart is a game about the frustration of love. It is inspired by Joy Division’s ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart,’ with each verse of the song represented by a level in the game.”

Well fuck me that sounds awesome. We already have Joy Division tennis shoes, tattoos, and Mickey Mouse shirts (I own two of those three, for the record), so why not a video game? Leave the room if you’ve just made a hangman joke, please.

In related news, New Order (known around here as the Other Three) play the Bank of America Pavilion on July 31, and Peter Hook and the Light return to Boston on September 10, where they will perform the first two New Order records, Movement and Power, Corruption & Lies, in their entirety at the Paradise Rock Club.
