Stream ‘Coming Up,’ the new single from Brooklyn’s Bedfellows (ex-Technoir MA)

Bedfellows Band Shot

Justin Vassallo first caught our attention a few years ago when he comprised one-half of Boston dance-pop duo Technoir MA, a project of swirling electronic sounds, steady drum-machine beats, and emotive vocals that recalled New Order’s Bernard Sumner. Vassallo has since made the move 215 miles or so south to the Brooklyn wilderness, trading in the band named after the nightclub in the first Terminator movie for BEDFELLOWS, a more rhythmically-balanced indie-pop/post-punk trio that also features Jack Glenn and Garrett Cook.

Vassallo released the first Bedfellows record as a solo project about a year ago, but the full-band now takes center stage with this summer’s upcoming World Apart EP. Listen to the first single, “Coming Up,” below; the track has a warm, almost tropical vibe to it, perfect for a hot sticky summer day like today, and you can damn near the Mister Softee jingle rising up from down the block. The additional members added to Bedfellows give their jangly, melodic sound a more human element, even with the continued employment of that pesky drum machine.

World Apart, which should be released by August 1, was recorded with Yale Yng-Wong at Doctor Wu’s Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and features five new Bedfellows tracks. A music video for “Coming Up” is also on the way.

BEDFELLOWS World Apart tracklisting:
1. Like A Hostage
2. Coming Up
3. Receiver
4. As She Whispers
5. Range of Love
