Today’s six pack: Outside The Box stacks the music deck, from Shea Rose to Gentlemen Hall

No coincidence today feels like the hottest day of the year: it’s also the day of the week-long Outside the Box music & arts festival we’ve been looking forward to the most. Seriously, it reads like an awesome Boston music fest — Gentlemen Hall, Abadabad, David Wax Museum, Shea Rose, Bearstronaut, Nemes, McAlister Drive, Dressed For The Occasion, and more — and kicks off around 1pm.

It serves as a nice warm up for some heavy Friday and Saturday slates, the latter of which delivers a headlining home-field throwdown from the Bosstones, Buffalo Tom, and the Lemonheads.

So go ahead and take a long lunch, and call in dead for the rest of the afternoon. We’ll keep the chit-chat to a minimum and offer up some tunes of where we’ll be at all day, bouncing back and forth between City Hall and Boston Common. It’s our very own Pick Six.

Remember, everything is FREEEE and you can see the entire schedule here.

:: Thursday, July 18 : Shea Rose : 1pm @ the City Hall Plaza “Main Stage”

Boston soul singer who knows she’s the shit.

:: Thursday, July 18 : Bearstronaut : 3pm @ the City Hall Plaza “Main Stage”

A proper warm-up for the Vanya Records dance-pop quartet before they return to City Hall in September for Boston Calling.

:: Thursday, July 18 : Nemes : 4:45pm @ the Boston Common “Park Street Stage”

Gritty alt-folk and Americana that’s perfect for a sweaty day in the city.

:: Thursday, July 18 : Abadabad : 5pm @ the City Hall Plaza “MainStage”

Breezy, sunny, nearly even surf-pop that’s reflect bright off the sunbeams kissing the Boston ground.

:: Thursday, July 18 : David Wax Museum : 6:30pm @ the City Hall Plaza “MainStage”

The Newport Folk Fest veterans bring some Mexi-Americana grit to our government center.

:: Thursday, July 18 : Gentlemen Hall : 8m @ the City Hall Plaza “MainStage”

G-Hall just got back from a successful West Coast tour, their songs are being heard nationally in TV sports for Target and Samsung, and “Sail Into the Sun” is a certified Grade-A summer J-A-M. Plus Cobi Mike is mad dreamy. Great way to close out a busy day.
