Get to know: Swedish electronic pop quartet Kate Boy, playing the pill this Friday 09.13.13

Sweden just about fucking owns electro-pop music, and this time the Scandinavian haven is getting an assist from down under. Australia’s Kate Akhurst was just what a trio of Stockholm producers — Markus Dextegen, Oskar Sikow Engström, and Hampus Nordgren Hemlin – needed to bring the multi-faceted sound dimensions of KATE BOY to life. Last year the quartet dropped the Northern Lights EP via IAMSOUND, and the title track is a throbbing electro echo-chamber that comets around the insides of your body until you’re sprawled out on the dance floor making love to the strobe lights.

The EP’s other singles — “In Your Eyes” and “The Way We Are” — are further examples proving this Boy is already very grown up, and earning those “Kate Bush meets the Knife” comparisons. The band’s imagery — minimalist dressed in black and white and filtered through societal androgyny — is just another layer to the carefully-curated presentation.

Kate Boy kick off their nine-date United States tour tomorrow in Brooklyn, and come to Boston to play the Pill indie dance party at Great Scott on Friday, September 13, before bouncing over to the West Coast. Check out the full run of Kate Boy dates, as well as the two other songs that are instantly solidifying their rep as one of the brightest new stars in the electro-pop galaxy.
