First Listen: The party-time punk of ‘We’re Gonna Do It Anyway’ by PKEW PKEW PKEW [gunshots]

Hey !!!, take your chks and GTFO.

Here comes Toronto party-punk band PKEW PKEW PKEW, which we’re told are pronounced like gunshots but sounds to us more like a toy stun-gun. I don’t know.

The good news is that their new song “We’re Gonna Do It Anyway,” is pretty killer, a mix of Girls’ “Lust For Life” and… uh, some other pizza-pop stuff. PKEW x3 describe themselves as “like Beyonce, but for dudes,” and we can get behind this entire thing. Their latest record Glory Days is out November 12, and if “We’re Gonna Do It Anyway” is any indication, we’re all in for one hell of a time.

Not even an epic Game 7 collapse by the Maple Leafs could deter this crew.

Yay Toronto.

Check out the track below, which just dropped yesterday, with lazy-ass journalism bio copy/pasting after the jump.

Yeah, we’re kinda tired today, so we’re just re-posting the press release for proper background…

Started with the silliest intentions in 2010, Pkew Pkew Pkew was born a two-piece out of the desire to wear sunglasses indoors and play synthesizers. Their intentions have since changed with the band’s line-up rounding out as a five-piece, but the energy is much the same. Replacing the synth with a louder, double-edged guitar attack, they’ve taken on a stronger punk energy since forming. Mixing their love of bands like Rancid and the Bouncing Souls into an aesthetic that’s somewhere between Weezer and Titus Andronicus, each track comes with its own hooks and dynamic. Whether it’s the two-part “Friends Don’t Let Friends Move In with Girlfriends” or the eponymous “PkewX3 Anthem,” the tracks on their self-titled debut are all but begging the listener to join their ever-growing dude choir. That fervor only grows with the reckless abandon of Glory Days.
