Underneath all that throbbing electro goodness, there’s a strong pop music core to the distinct sound of CHVRCHES. So it’s no wonder the Scottish trio were able to dip into the throwback machine and bust out a pretty cool cover of Whitney Houston’s 1999 r&b-dance jam “It’s Not Right But It’s Okay” for a recent session with Zane Lowe on BBC Radio 1.
The rendition is a bit coarse at first, but then settles in nicely once the chorus hits. Frankly, the synths remind us of a modernized mash-up between Real Life’s “Send Me An Angel” and “The Great Commandment” by Camouflage.
With all the sass of Whitney thrown in, of course. Get it girl.
CHVRCHES’ debut record The Bones Of What You Believe is out now via Virgin Records.
