Berlin-based pop artist Thomas Azier releases video for ‘Ghostcity,’ announces CMJ dates

Berlin-based, Dutch-born electronic musician Thomas Azier has been on the cusp of a breakthrough ever since relocating to Germany at age 19. Five years after crashing Berlin’s all-night techno scene with his own vision of melodic electronic pop music, Azier has put all the elements in place on the crushing dark-disco anthem “Ghostcity.”

The song’s music video premiered today, and finds Azier bringing the party to an old abandoned Soviet building; the setting’s bleak tones and bleaker history providing the perfect strobe-lit backdrop for Azier’s stark-yet-inviting brand of devious electronic pop.

To celebrate today’s release of the “Ghostcity” video, Azier also unveiled his first US shows next month: three in New York for CMJ, and a fourth later in October in Los Angeles.

It’s all a warm-up for his debut LP, Hylas 003, out early next year. If “Ghostcity” is any indication, it should be one of the best releases of the year, building off the early tremors he sent across dance floors with Hylas 001 and 002, which were both re-released this past summer.
