Boston’s Ruby Ridge release Misfits cover, announce 10-band Winter Solstice lineup

The end of October in Boston brings about a wealth of cover shows around town, carrying forth the annual tradition ignited by the Pill dance party at the Paradise Lounge way back in 2003. Last year, the Pill Halloween slate featured Ruby Ridge taking on the Knife, and now the Boston noise-pop duo has turned its attention to a familiar fall fiend: those timeless Misfits.

Naturally, there are no shortage of Misfits cover sets each year, and hell, even Jerry Only brings his latest version of the “actual” Misfits to the Wilbur on October 31.

So instead of taking to the stage for a quick one-and-done, Ruby Ridge instead unveiled a recorded cover of Misfits’ Static Age classic, “Come Back.” It’s available to stream or download via their Soundcloud.

“We really, really love Halloween,” reports the Ridge to Vanyaland. “And we love doing goofy covers. So we decided to cover a song by the most Halloweeny band of them all and put it up online for people to have forever instead of just playing it out live once. We hope you enjoy our creepy organ and synth-drenched take on “Come Back” one of the only songs by the original Misfits lineup that I don’t think I’ve ever heard another band take a crack at.”

Looking past Halloween, Ruby Ridge also announced the lineup for the annual Winter Solstice party, this one going down at Radio’s two Somerville stages on December 22, 2013. Curated by Ruby Ridge’s John Von Bittrich and Mikey Lee (Coralcola) in celebrating the longest day of the year, the yearly event features the brightest dark sounds from Boston and beyond.

This year’s Solstice party is their biggest yet, featuring 10 bands and two DJs. The lineup features Andre Obin, BATHAUS, Immigrants, Lord Giovanni, Lend Bias, Homeworld, Private Archive, Loomere, Homeowner, DJ Erotic FX of Last Rites, and, of course, the organizers, Ruby Ridge and DJ Coralcola.

Stay tuned for more on that as the season’s evolve.
