Boston City Hall looking for local music to soundtrack call transfers and waiting times

Ever since Marty Walsh was elected Mayor of Boston on Tuesday, we figured the Modern Lovers’ “Roadrunner” would take on a greater significance at the State House. But it turns out the city is taking things a step further, sending out a call for submissions to soundtrack their phone lines during waiting times and call transfers.

City Hall is now taking submissions via Twitter (@DoITBoston) and Facebook until December 2.

Unleash the hounds, rock scene. And no, Seth Putnam’s band is probably not allowed.

According to the cityofboston.gov:

We don’t like to leave you hanging on the telephone – that’s why when you call Boston City Hall, you can reach a real person 24 hours a day at the Mayor’s 24-Hour Call Center. But if you’re transferred, you’ll hear a short clip of music. We think that music should be as uniquely Bostonian as you are.

That’s why we’re turning to you, Boston: we’re turning our newly upgraded phone system into a place to showcase our talented local musicians. Between now and December 2, submit your original tracks to be included in our transfer music playlist, and we’ll promote you and your song via our website and social media. Read the rules below, and we can’t wait to hear from you!

How to Submit

Follow & tweet @DoITBoston, our Department of Innovation & Technology, and use the hashtag #BOStunes, or send us a message via Facebook.com/CityofBoston.

Make sure to include a link to one song where we can preview your streaming music, such as Bandcamp, Soundcloud, or Myspace. We’ll reach out to winners, who will need to be ready with a file formatted according to the following specifications:

– 16-bit PCM WAV file

– Stereo or Mono

– Sample rates of 48, 44.1, 32, 16 or 8 kHz

Additional Rules: At least one member of your group or band must live in Boston at the time of submission

Keep it clean & respectful: no profane or discriminatory language.
