Government petition to deport Justin Bieber tallies nearly 75,000 signatures in six days, appears headed for White House review

Can the United States send Justin Bieber back to Canada? That will soon be a hot topic as a government petition titled “Deport Justin Bieber and revoke his green card” has garnered more than 75,000 signatures since Thursday. Once the We The People public petition receives 100,000 signatures, it will, according to Channel 4 in the UK, “be reviewed by White House staff, assigned to a government department, and will warrant an official response.”

The petition reads:

“We the people of the United States feel that we are being wrongly represented in the world of pop culture. We would like to see the dangerous, reckless, destructive, and drug abusing, Justin Bieber deported and his green card revoked. He is not only threatening the safety of our people but he is also a terrible influence on our nations youth. We the people would like to remove Justin Bieber from our society.”

Channel 4 also reports that Bieber is in the US on an 0-1 VISA, which is a temporary worker visa deemed fit only for people with “extraordinary abilities.”

On January 23, the day the petition was created, Bieber was arrested in Miami for drag racing on suspicion of driving under the influence, and his mugshot made world-wide news. A few days earlier, video of his egging of a neighbor’s house was broadcast by TMZ.

Oddly, he was nowhere to be found during Sunday night’s Grammys at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
