Is It Honey? Is It Gold? Peter Murphy prepares tenth solo album for release, announces tour

His legal problems behind him from last year’s dual bust for methamphetamine possession and a simultaneous hit and run, iconic frontman Peter Murphy has set the release his tenth solo album, Lion, for June 3. “Hang Up,” the first single, as well as the album pre-order, will be available on iTunes starting April 8. The former Bauhaus singer also announced a 32 date North American tour that kicks off in Las Vegas May 22, making its way to Boston June 12 at the Paradise.

Record Store Day aficionados will have the opportunity to purchase an exclusive, limited edition 7” single featuring “Hang Up (Dub Mix)” and “I’m On Your Side” on April 19. Produced by Youth (Killing Joke, The Verve), Lion is comprised of 11 tracks that a press release promises are, “bass heavy, stark and shimmering.” The six minute trailer for Lion, above, certainly supports that boast with clips from “Hang Up,” “Eliza,” “Loctaine,” “I Am My Own Name” and “The Ghost of Shokan Lake.”

In an interview with Billboard last May, Murphy described Lion as “a mixture of stuff…almost like operas for the dispossessed. It’s very romantic and very deep and emotional, quite symphonic in places, but then becomes, like, a rabble-rousing pirate sea shanty.”

Aside from the arrest and ensuing court dates, Murphy spent much of 2013 on the road celebrating 35 years of Bauhaus on the critically-acclaimed Mr. Moonlight Tour. With Lion, Murphy turns his attention back to his solo work, his first since 2011’s superb release, Ninth.
