What About The Bassist? New Order preview new song at Lollapalooza, ‘Drop The Guitar’

Despite operating without pivotal founding bassist Peter Hook, New Order’s “Other Three” seem intent on moving forward. There have been rumors of new music on the way from the Manchester luminaries, and recently, one new cut was unveiled live at Lollapalooza Chile.

According to sleuths and a post on Slicing Up Eyeballs, the track is called “Drop The Guitar.”

There’s a Hooky joke in there somewhere, we’re sure. It sure does have his bassline. As SUE points out, it’s reminiscent of the Joy Division classic, “Shadowplay.”

The song sounds pretty good, but since this is just a fan video, we’ll have to hold out final opinion after a studio cut is released. Sounds promising, though.

After a full 2013 national tour that found the band playing a three-quarters full Bank of America Pavilion last July, New Order are back in the States later this summer with a gig at Sasquatch and a run of West Coast dates.

Hooky, meanwhile, is back in Boston with his new band, the Light, performing the New Order albums Brotherhood and Lowlife, November 8 at Royale.
