Expensive Pumpkin: Billy Corgan is releasing an experimental record and it will cost $60

Sixty dollars will get you a lot of cool things these days, like a Red Sox ticket, a World of Warcraft Level 90 character boost, or 73 cans of Fancy Feast. Now you can add Billy Corgan’s new record to that list, though shipping and handling will run you extra (thanks, Obama.)

The lone original Smashing Pumpkin has announced AEGEA, a private-press experimental record that should be available sometime in the next six to eight weeks. It’ll be limited to a first run of 250 and all will be hand-numbered and signed by Corgan.

It’s a natural next step for Corgan, who has been hosting what Pitchfork describes as “ambient/experimental performances” at the musician’s suburban Chicago tea shop, Madame ZuZu’s. The album was recorded back in 2007.

According to our favorite Corgi:

“As a work, AEGEA is experimental in nature, and comes across as more a soundtrack to some lost foreign film than the kind of music I’m usually associated with. Listening back I quite like how AEGEA goes along, as it has qualities that are both meditative and alien; but not alienating.”

Here’s some video from one of those Siddhartha performances from Chi-town…
