Bulletproof To Poof and Back Again: Listen to La Roux’s comeback jam ‘Let Me Down Gently’

When British synthpop duo La Roux broke onto the scene in the late-’00s, they were “Bulletproof.” Then they went “poof,” and we weren’t sure if we were going to hear from Elly Jackson and Ben Langmaid ever again.

Five years after a pretty remarkable debut record — boasting powerhouse electro-pop singles like “In For The Kill,” “Quicksand,” “I’m Not Your Toy,” the aforementioned “Bulletproof” — La Roux is back as a Jackson solo effort, and today she let her hair down and unveiled new single “Let Me Down Gently.”

The track is off La Roux’s sophomore record Trouble In Paradise, out July 7 via Polydor.

The comeback single is a slow-burner synth jam that hits the gas ever-so-gently midway through, bubbling over what appears to be a saxophone in the best use of the instrument since M83’s “Midnight City.”

Listen to the track below, which is worth the five-year wait, and check La Roux’s summer tour dates. Her run hits the Paradise Rock Club in Boston on June 3 and features a pair of West Coast dates with New Order.

Tickets to the Boston gig are still available.
