TV Movie: Watch the trailer for ‘PULP: A Film About Life, Death & Supermarkets’

For some of us forever-entrenched in Anglophile pockets here in the States, and for many going about their adult lives in the UK, the 20th anniversary of Britpop has been a recurring theme so far in 2014. We’ve launched Britpop Social Club, Johnny Dean has resurrected Menswe@r, and there’s been a mad dash of media coverage marking 1994’s start of Cool Britannia. But Britpop’s high water mark, at least in song, isn’t commemorated until next year, when Pulp’s legendary working-class anthem “Common People” and album masterpiece Different Class both turn 20.

In the meantime, Pulp’s new comeback documentary arrives a year early, as Pulp: A Film About Life, Death, and Supermarkets is released in the UK on June 6 after a successful showing at SXSW. To our knowledge, there are no plans for a United States run of screenings — hey Brattle, we should hook this up — so we might have to skip across the Atlantic to catch this in the theatre.

The trailer for Pulp was unveiled yesterday, so let’s take a look. Here’s the synopsis:

PULP found fame on the world stage in the 1990’s with anthems including ‘Common People’ and ‘Disco 2000’. 25 years (and 10 million album sales) later, they return to Sheffield for their last UK concert. Giving a career best performance exclusive to the film, the band share their thoughts on fame, love, mortality – & car maintenance.

Sing along with the “Common People,” and check out the trailer below:
