Au Revoir Simone cover Mazzy Star’s ‘Fade Into You’ with the help of a Stroke

With a show at Governors Ball and word of a possible new record on the way, the Strokes have been in the news once again. And now bassist Nikolai Fraiture has teamed up with Brooklyn trio Au Revoir Simone for a very upbeat and new wave cover of Mazzy Star’s ’90s gloom anthem “Fade Into You.”

And forgive us if we’re wrong here, but we kinda hear the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven” tucked in there somewhere. Fraiture produced the track and also played bass and guitar.

The new “Fade Into You” premiered via Soundcloud today and you can listen to it here.

“I saw Au Revoir Simone perform the song on KEXP and had some ideas for how it could be recorded,” Fraiture tells Rolling Stone. “I love the band and met Erika Spring through some friends in New York. I sent them a rough version of the track. They agreed to come into the studio to do vocals and sent in their keyboard parts while on tour. They each did just a few vocal takes but sounded great.”

There are definitely no Strokes dates on the horizon for us here in Boston, but we are getting Au Revoir Simone — the trio plays Brighton Music Hall on July 5. More info via Do617.com.
