Set your VCR: The New Pornographers announce ‘Brill Bruisers,’ release title track, plan Boston visit

AC Newman has a hot tip for all of us with little free time these days. “Finally I can tweet freely about our LP, Brill Bruisers,” he tweeted on Tuesday. “Let me save you some blog-reading: It’s our best one yet.”

Of course, he’s talking about a new record from the New Pornographers, the Vancouver ensemble’s sixth studio album. Brill Bruisers will be out August 26 via Matador, and the crew have a pretty good-sized North American tour to celebrate it. The New Pornographers, with Neko Case and Dan Bejar in tow, will hit the House of Blues in Boston on November 19. Tickets go on sale Friday at 10 a.m.

Brill Bruisers is the band’s first record since 2010’s Together, recorded in upstate New York and Vancouver. “This is a celebration record,” says Newman. “After periods of difficulty, I am at a place where nothing in my life is dragging me down and the music reflects that. We wanted Xanadu and we wanted Sigue Sigue Sputnik, which translated into sparklier and faster.”

Check out the jubilant first single and title track below, as well as the full run of tour dates and a cool interactive album-artwork feature.
