Bidding For The Man: Some of Lou Reed’s musical gear goes up for auction on eBay

It’s no surprise that Lou Reed’s music has lived on after his death last October. What is a surprise, however, is that some of his musical gear is now for sale on eBay.

An auction to fund and support the Lou Reed Archive was announced yesterday via the legendary Velvet Underground musician’s Facebook page, linking to an eBay store that now lists 16 items that once belonged to Reed and/or his touring bands. Among the items listed are Reed’s Kurzweil PC2X (bidding is at $710), a Yamaha P-80 (currently at $540), and an acoustic Pendulum SPS-1 Stereo Preamp for Acoustic Instruments ($1,200). There are no guitars listed, and no description of where or when these instruments were used.

So before anyone gets too excited, take note: Reed’s “most important guitars, amps, and effects will be kept by Sister Ray Enterprises,” the auction note reads.

Here’s the full announcement:

Lou Reed eBay Auction:

Over the past thirty years Lou Reed amassed a large collection of equipment in support of his many tours. While all of his most important guitars, amps, and effects will be kept by Sister Ray Enterprises for his archive, there are many pieces of musical gear and road cases that need to be sold. Over the next few weeks these items will be auctioned through eBay. The proceeds will go towards the work that is underway to develop the Lou Reed Archive.

Please support this effort by checking our eBay page, http://stores.ebay.com/Lou-Reed-Archive . New items will be posted every few days. A wide variety of items will be available. All of these items were kept at Sister Ray Enterprises and were used by Lou and his band on tour. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to own a piece of music history.

Reed died on Oct. 27, 2013 at the age of 71.
