Return of the Nemesisters: Babes In Toyland confirm reunion, new material

It’s been about 120 minutes since some cleverly-astute asshat declared “the ’90s are back!” But now that person has some fresh ammunition for the tired proclamation with the sudden news that Minneapolis alt-rock trio Babes In Toyland are reuniting.

In an interview with Lancer Radio at Pasadena College yesterday, Kat Bjelland and Maureen Herman confirmed that not only are Babes In Toyland playing together for the first time since disbanding in 2001, but they’ve also already blitzed through classic tracks like “Bruise Violet” and “Sweet 69” in unpublicized apartment rehearsals.

Oh, and there’s going to be new music on the way, as well. The Babes’ last studio records was 1995’s Nemesisters, so all this would coincide nicely with a 20th anniversary thing sometime next year.

Stereogum points out that Babes In Toyland’s first reunion show is expected to be a benefit for Lady Parts Justice in Minneapolis, but no date for that has been set just yet.

Hopefully we get a tour.

Please God let us get a tour.

Check out the full interview below, as well as perhaps the Babes’ finest moment and a staple of the early-’90s late-night alt-rock music video boom, “Bruise Violet,” off 1992’s breakthrough LP Fontanelle.
