We Hate It When Our Friends Become Successful: Kristeen Young teams with Dave Grohl for TV debut

Take that, Morrissey!

A few weeks after leaving the former Smiths singer’s tour under very curious circumstances, Kristeen Young will make her late night television debut with some help from Dave Grohl and Pat Smear.

Hopefully she doesn’t get them sick.

Young will perform “Pearl of a Girl” July 16 on The Late Show With Craig Ferguson, off her new LP The Knife Shift. Grohl played drums on the entire record and also contributed guitar on five tracks.

For the Ferguson gig, Grohl will play drums and Smear will play guitar.

Said Grohl about The Knife Shift: “I love this record. It’s unlike anything I’ve done before. Piano, drums, bass, and guitar. That’s it. It’s bare, but very deep. Raw, but melodically complex.”

“[Young] doesn’t just play these songs, she attacks them….Every take I watched her, eyes closed, pounding her piano, screaming into her microphone so loud it overpowered my drums at times. It was an audience of one, but she filled the room like it were a stadium…”
