Is Public Access TV ‘New York’s hottest new band?’ Either way, they’re playing Great Scott

Everyone loves a good success story. Back in January, the NME called new guitar-rock trio Public Access TV “New York’s hottest new band.” How new were they? They hadn’t even played a show yet, and only about 15 minutes prior had they added a name to a few anonymous online demos.

So it goes.

Well now Public Access TV are ready for their close-up — and your friendly scrutiny — when they hit the road with the Features later this year. A snazzy four-date East Coast run wraps up September 8 at Great Scott in Allston.

While Public Access TV might be a relatively new name coming up on your iPhone, your iPod will certainly recognize the pedigree.

Frontman John Eatherly was in Be Your Own Pet, and played in Eleanor Friedberger’s band. He was also in NYC 2000-somethings hopefulls the Virgins, as was guitarist Xan Aird (go look in your vinyl collection and you’re bound to find a few copies of a promo 12-inch for “Rich Girls” you totally forgot you had). Drummer Peter Baumann also plays in a band called Grand Rapids.

So check out the dates, draw your own conclusion, and do or do not mark that September 8 date on your calendars. We’re pretty into the track “Middle Child,” it has that nice New York rock and roll sound. Catchy.
