Vanyaland Premiere: STL GLD slay ‘Zombies’ on new track with Reks and Ruste Juxx

Moe Pope is constantly pushing the boundaries of hip-hop. Whether it’s shaking up the rap scene on collaborations with Rain and Quills or jumping on stage to thrill indie kids by dropping verses with Bearstronaut, the Boston lyricist and composer has never met a musical wall he couldn’t break through.

Now the two-time Boston Music Award-winner performer has teamed up with homegrown producer and AR Classic Records label owner the Arcitype on gritty fast-forward duo STL GLD. Vanyaland is honored to premiere “Zombies,” a living-dead hip-hop anthem that serves as the latest single off upcoming record My Monday Morning Music (out August 12 via AR Classic and Brick Records with the record release party August 15 at Brighton Music Hall).

“Zombies” finds Pope on his trademark rapid-fire lyrical attack while the Arcitype lays down the rhythmically spiraling electronic foundation. But like warding off any true invasion of the undead, STL GLD are equipped with an army on guard: Boston hip-hop maven Reks and Brooklyn-based Duck Down rhyme-slinger Ruste Juxx both add their own firepower to the “Zombies,” offering three separate lyrical looks blasting out in tune over the track’s head-nodding beats.

My Monday Morning Music promises a sample-free record of 100% original music, and in turn STL GLD have created something that’s bound to be sampled in years to come. Featuring guest drops from Dua Boakye (Bad Rabbits), Jake Mehrmann and Chris Klaxton (Tan Vampires), Dutch Rebelle, and others, the zombies these cats are slaying reside in your perception of what a modern hip-hop record should be.
