Pop Demo: New York Yankees minor-league affiliate to destroy Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus memorabilia this weekend

On July 12, 1979, one of the most infamous nights in baseball history went down at Comiskey Park in Chicago. It was Disco Demolition night, and fans were asked to bring disco records to be destroyed between games of a double-header. Things got so out of hand, a riot broke out and the hometown White Sox were forced to forfeit the nightcap.

Now, one week after the Chi-town shitshow’s 35th anniversary, one minor league team is hoping to re-create the magic — without the carnage.

The Charleston RiverDogs, a Class A-affiliate of the New York Yankees, will host “Disco Demolition 2: You Better Belieb It” this Saturday night after the North Carolina nine take on the Augusta GreenJackets. Fans that bring Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus music and memorabilia will be allowed entry to the stadium for $1, and the stuff will be blown up right there on the field after the game.

This should end well.

“Like so many, we have taken special exception to Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus’s music along with his numerous run-ins with the law and her controversial performances,” said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols, via MILB.com.

He added: “‘Disco Demolition 2’ is dedicated to the eradication of their dread musical disease, like the original Disco Demolition attempted to do. We are going to take Bieber and Cyrus’s merchandise and memorabilia, put it in a giant box, and blow it to smithereens. It is all in good fun, and we guarantee there won’t be a forfeit of a game.”

Live and learn, America.
