Criminally Vulgar: Here’s Phil Anselmo covering the Smiths with Dave Hill

Earlier this year former Pantera singer Phil Anselmo sat down with radio.com to discuss his love for the Smiths. “They’re heavy in their own way,” he said. “I always say extreme music comes in all genres. They are an extreme band in the same way the Beatles were extreme, or Queen was extreme. The Smiths should be held in that lofty position as well.”

Anselmo added: “You think you know depression, grimness and self-loathing? Listen to Morrissey!”

Well, now we can listen to Anselmo as Morrissey. The singer teamed up with guitarist Dave Hill of the Goddamn Dave Hill Show to cover the Smiths’ classic “Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want.” The impromptu performance came after a screening of Metal Grasshopper at One Eyed Jacks in New Orleans.

Check out video below; the view is a bit blurry, but you don’t really need to be watching this… just listen. It’s a bit of a humorous take, but we know Anselmo’s love for the song is real.
