Vanyaland Premiere: Soft Pyramids glow on new guitar-pop single ‘Waning Moon’

It feels like forever since we first heard from Soft Pyramids, who caught our attention way back in 2011 with the slinky guitar-pop groove of “Dwightsnake.” Since then, the Somerville quartet has been refining its sound in the shadows of the Boston rock scene, releasing a pair of solid singles and an under-hyped EP where the music did most of the promotion.

Now Soft Pyramids are back in action with a much bolder look and approach, announcing the September 30 release of debut LP Fossils of the Free World with a vintage video edit for its lead single, the confident, quirky “Waning Moon.”

Fossils of the Free World was recorded in January to April of this year at the Napoleon Complex, the band’s rehearsal space in Somerville, and the result is an organic, warm sound that shines through on “Waning Moon.” As we await the rest of the record next month (to be released on vinyl and digitally), fire up the video below, DL the track via the Soft Pyramids Bandcamp, and catch the band live at T.T. The Bear’s Place in Cambridge with Peachpit and Dead Trains on September 5.
