Interview: On the couch with St. Nothing, live from Boston Calling Music Festival

The Saturday slate of Boston Calling began earlier today with a double-shot of homegrown electro-pop: first, the emotive nocturnal bedroom-pop of St. Nothing opened the day under a blazing post-noon sun, and then the Top 40-ready poolside dance-pop of CliffLight got the masses moving in unison. It was a strong showing for our city’s blossoming electronic music scene, and set the table nicely for performances by Sky Ferreira, Lorde, Girl Talk, and Childish Gambino later in the day.

Shortly after their set, we caught up with St. Nothing to chat about their fast rise in our city’s electronic music scene, how they ended up playing Boston Calling after only a handful of live shows, and what’s coming up next for the trio of singer, producer and keyboardist Marco Lawrence, guitarist Sophia Carreras, and violist Meredith Nero.

Earlier in the week, we premiered St. Nothing’s latest demo, “Deals,” and you can revisit that here after viewing our full on-the-couch interview below.

St. Nothing will be performing Boston En Masse’s electro-pop night, presented by Vanyaland, on Saturday, September 20 at Church. Also on that bill are Color Channel, Goldbloc, AVOXBLUE, Pale Hands, and others to be announced. We actually spilled the beans on one of those acts in the interview below, but we bleeped that shit out.
