The story of Broncho is a true tale of American rock and roll perseverance. A few false starts, a handful of broken promises, and the entire collapse of their former record label couldn’t derail the Oklahoma band from digging deep and churning out one of the best records of the year in this month’s Just Enough Hip To Be Woman.
We’ve chronicled the singles with increased excitement as they’ve slowly trickled out: the Lena Dunham- and Girls-approved “It’s On” back in February; July’s 2014 Song of the Year contender “Class Historian,” with its Cars-meets-T-Rex sense of cool; and then last month’s jangle-pop jam “What”. Now we have the full record to properly digest before its release via Dine Alone Records on September 16.
Like the singles predicted, Just Enough Hip To Be Woman is 32 minutes of infectious rock energy, and gives us a proper taste of their live show, which Vanyaland is proud to present on September 17 at Great Scott in Allston.
“Playing live is the entire reason you start a band,” guitarist/vocalist Ryan Lindsey. “We always want to change things and keeps things new — and I’m really proud of how this record came out and the ways we were able to push things forward — but playing live is always the test. We want people to hear us. We want everyone to have a good time.”
