When The Stars Go Black: Watch Ryan Adams and Johnny Depp cover Danzig’s ‘Mother’ in London

Back in May we kept with our Mother’s Day tradition by posting our favorite covers of Danzig’s enduring 1988 metal classic, “Mother.” It was a solid list, featuring the likes of Deer Bear, Wye Oak, Lissie, and Anberlin, who all added their own personal flair to the song.

Next year’s list already has a frontrunner, apparently, as last night in London, Johnny Depp joined Ryan Adams on stage at Shepherd’s Bush Empire for their own take on “Mother.”

It’s pretty good; a bit moody, fairly respectable, and something we hope Adams breaks out when he plays the Wang Theatre in Boston on November 18. Watch fan-filmed footage of the take below.

And in case you’re wondering, Danzig himself has not chimed in on it — at least not on Twitter, where he hasn’t tweeted since April of last year.
