Boston Gets Quieter: Soccer Mom announce farewell, plan final live shows

Credit: Tom Belotti

We’re bummed to learn today that Boston noise-pop quartet Soccer Mom, acclaimed slingers of sonic fury sealed in sweet aural kisses, will be playing their second-to-last show at T.T. The Bear’s Place in Cambridge on October 12.

The grand finale has not yet been announced, but today’s news is made all the more bittersweet in learning that the T.T.’s show is also Young Adults’ farewell as well. Two perfectly noisy bands going out at the same time is a notable dent in this city’s music scene, but we’ll have one last hurrah to go blow our ear drums out one last time.

While Young Adults plan to release new music tomorrow to commemorate their farewell, Soccer Mom simply dropped the news today via social media notification, and we’re left with their 2014 self-titled LP and 2011 EP You Are Not Going To Heaven, both off 100m Records and two of the better shoegaze/noise/rock/whatever records to come out of Boston this decade. Before we relive the magic down below, here’s the goodbye letter:

Hello Friends – It is with heavy hearts we share with you that Soccer Mom is going to be calling it a day. Though we are sad to see it come to an end, the sad stuff is really overshadowed by how psyched we are with how much fun we’ve had along the way being in this band together.

We are all so completely grateful for the last 5 years we have been a Boston band – for all the friends we got to play with, the friends we made along the way and the bands we admire that we were lucky to share a stage with. At the end of the day, we made music we are proud of and appreciate all of you for allowing us to share it with you.

As we wrap it up, we do have another live show coming up on 10.12.14 at TT’s with Young Adults (which is their last show), Earthquake Party and California X. There are plans for another last live hurrah we are working towards in the very near future, and will certainly communicate that here when we know more. Til then, we’d love to see you come send our pals in Young Adults off in style.

Records and merch are still for sale at the 100m store and we will certainly have them at the coming show(s). Members of the band are also working on music projects as we speak, and we’ll be sharing that stuff here as it forms.

Lastly – thanks so much to all of you for all of your support along the way, it’s been awesome!
XO – SM

Peace out, Soccer Mom, it’s been real.
