Guitar Heroes: Watch Noel Gallagher and Johnny Marr cover the Smiths and Iggy Pop in London

Though his new record isn’t out until March of next year, Noel Gallagher appears fully back in action. Yesterday saw the release of the Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds video for new single “In The Heat Of The Moment,” and the one-time Oasis guitarist capped off the day by joining one-time Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr on stage in London.

During Marr’s encore at the O2 Brixton Academy, the pair of stars-gone-solo covered the Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now” and Iggy Pop’s “Lust For Life.”

Introducing Gallagher, Marr told the crowd: “I’d like to introduce someone who has been a friend of mine for 20 years. One of the greatest songwriters from this country. He’s a good man, I think he’s got a big future ahead of him. Mr Noel Gallagher.”

Marr was performing to support his latest record, this month’s Playland, and the NME notes his set consisted of “several Smiths classics and Electronic’s “Getting Away With It.'”

Gallagher’s new High Flying Birds album, Chasing Yesterday, drops in March.
