Iz Wrong: Liam Gallagher announces split of Beady Eye

Earlier today, Liam Gallagher announced via his Twitter account that Beady Eye have broken up.

The brief statement read, “Beady Eye are no longer. Thanks for all your support.” Guitarist Andy Bell, no stranger to band dissolutions having been a member of Ride, Hurricane #1 and Oasis, confirmed the news via his own Twitter account. “Thanks to all the Beady Eye fans. I had a blast. See you on the other side. Big Love,” he tweeted.

Beady Eye formed in 2009 following the breakup of Oasis. Featuring Gallagher, Bell, bassist Gem Archer and drummer Chris Sharrock, were basically Oasis without main songwriter Noel Gallagher, leading many to think they wouldn’t amount to much. It was quite the surprise then when the Beady Eye debut, 2011’s Different Gear, Still Speeding, turned out to be a solid release. Its follow-up, last year’s BE, received even wider critical acclaim, earning them a slot at this year’s Coachella Festival, which was subsequently cancelled due to, “Reasons beyond our control.”

Under normal circumstances, Beady Eye’s end would further fuel rumors that Oasis would be reforming at some point down the road, but that seems highly unlikely at this point with Noel Gallagher ramping up promotion to his second High Flying Birds release, Chasing Yesterday, which comes out next March. Thursday, he joined former Smiths’ guitarist Johnny Marr onstage to cover The Smiths “How Soon is Now” and Iggy Pop’s “Lust for Life.”
