Take Me To Church: Watch Kelly Clarkson add some gospel fever to Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’

Okay, look, Taylor Swift’s new record 1989 comes out this week and it’s going to be a big deal. It might even be the first album of 2014 to go platinum (bold prediction!).

But before we drown in all things TaySway for the week ahead (weprobablyalreadyhave…), let’s just take a moment and recognize sister Kelly Clarkson, she of the greatest song of the 2000s in “Since U Been Gone,” for straight up testifying the other night in Buffalo.

Clarkson busted out a soulful, take-me-to-church rendition of “Shake It Off” that just hits the sweet heavens at the 2:21 mark. And it’s pretty cool how she teased the crowd, not telling them what she was going to cover but assuring that it wasn’t going to be Sam Smith.

“Everybody gives Taylor Swift a hard time, but I tell ya she can write a hook,” Clarkson tells the crowd after the performance.

Even Swift was impressed, tweeting: “Watching Kelly Clarkson SLAY ‘Shake It Off’ is an excellent way to celebrate 26 HOURS TIL 1989!!!!!!”

Boom.
