Batteries Included: Radio Shack hires ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic to sell drones this holiday season

Just when we thought Taylor Swift has cornered the market on all things ’80s with the synth-pop polish of her new album 1989, along comes Weird Al Yankovic to truly transport us back to the greatest decade.

How?

By starring in a new television commercial for Radio Shack. And yes, batteries are included.

There’s also signs of drone heliquads, 3-D printing, and Beats headphones, so there’s only so much retro that can fit in a 30-second TV “Toyland” spot. This is very 2014.

So this union of the once-dominant ‘Shack and Sir Yankovic, who enjoyed a massive comeback in 2014 with his chart-topping record Mandatory Fun, is more than just a blast from the past. It’s also oddly appealing for right now.

Radio Shack can only hope it can rebound in 2015 like Yankovic has this past year. Together, maybe they can.
