Plan of Re: Action: Listen to a rumbling new song from Peter Prescott’s Minibeast

In less than a fortnight, we’ll all be breaking in new calendars for 2015. For many Boston music fans, one of the first dates we’ll be filling in is July 18, when Mission of Burma play Fenway Park with Foo Fighters and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

We’re reminded of that date again today as Burma’s drummer, the versatile Peter Prescott, unexpectedly released a new track from his Providence-based project, Minibeast. “Re: action” is a rumbling number that needs a few listens to fully appreciate, not unlike Minibeast’s previous ambient works, and beautifully leans off the rails towards the end without actually ever falling off completely.

“The whole point of minibeast [solo and 4 piece band] has been to make environmental rhythm music, ambient sound aquarium music with a pulse, with human messiness inside,” writes the Minibeast bio on Facebook, summing it up better than we ever could. “Anti cult of personality, a break from the rigid pop mind and verse chorus verse. Can we listen in a different way?”

Find out below, and keep an eye on that calendar.
