Prohibition Pop: And here’s a 1930s jazz cover of Tove Lo’s ‘Habits (Stay High)’

In Tove Lo’s 2014 breakout hit “Habits (Stay High)”, the Swedish electronic pop singer tells us about going home, getting the munchies, and binging “on all [her] Twinkies.” It’s just one of the many things she does — along with hitting the strip clubs, eating dinner in her bathtub, and picking up daddy’s at the playground — as she stays stoned enough for forget a past lover.

Her appetite for Twinkies is of note today, as a new loungy, jazz cover by Postmodern Jukebox references back to the 1930s, when the tasty snack was first introduced.

Recorded at HUM Music in Santa Monica, Postmodern Jukebox’s version shows off the vocal talents of Haley Reinhart, taking Tove Lo’s hit back to the days of Billie Holiday. Previous Postmodern Jukebox covers have included songs from Taylor Swift, Sam Smith, and Fountains of Wayne, but clearly, it’s “Habits” that’s got our attention. Check out the troupe’s full run of global tour dates after the video jump.

And in case you missed it earlier in the week, Tove Lo dropped a new video for NSFW single “Talking Body” and was announced as a performer of May’s Boston Calling Music Festival. She’ll play City Hall Plaza alongside Beck, Pixies, St. Vincent, Marina & the Diamonds, and several others.

More on the festival here.
