Pretend We’re Alive: L7 announce reunion, live dates, kickstarter for documentary

What’s up with what’s going down? Well, L7 are back together.

The ’90s-bred Los Angeles grunge band today released a new teaser video announcing their comeback, starring Possum Dixon frontman Rob Zabrecky. Titled “A Night At The Morgue,” it also directs us to the L7 website, which has announced two European live appearances: June 19 at Spain’s Azkena Rock Festival, and the next day at France’s Hell Fest.

More dates are expected to be announced this week, so hopefully we get some stateside stink with this reunion news. We are certainly hungry for it.

Not to be outdone, the band has also hyped a new Kickstarter campaign looking to raise coin for a new documentary on the band, called L7: Pretend We’re Dead, which boasts the tagline: “The story of the fierce, funny and feminist pioneers of American grunge punk.”

Here’s some more press nuggets to digest before viewing the comeback trailer below:

Culled from over 100 hours of vintage home movies taken by the band, never before seen performance footage, and candid interviews, L7: Pretend We’re Dead chronicles the early days of the band’s formation in 1985 to their height as the ‘queens of grunge’ and follows a roller coaster ride of triumphs and failures. It offers particularly revelatory insight into the band’s eventual dissolution in 2001.

The formula: one part Donita’s love of pop and punk and one part Suzi’s hard rock and blues, charged with lyrics that had political bite and humor proved irresistible to the disenfranchised, the marginalized, and the punk. The excitement around the L7: Pretend We’re Dead announcement has catalyzed a recently announced and widely anticipated reunion of the band in its original line-up. L7 will kick off a European tour, bringing their high-octane energy and anthemic chops to the stage to ignite audiences once again.

L7 broke up in 2001, two years after the release of their final record, Slap Happy. The upcoming live shows will be their first in 15 years.
