On My Mind: Boston Calling announces Friday night schedule, change to Spring 2015 lineup

Though the city is still covered in several inches of snow, we have springtime on our minds. And when we think of spring, we think of Boston Calling.

To perhaps give us something to daydream about while the snow continues to fall around us, the bi-annual music festival at City Hall Plaza has unveiled its Friday night lineup for May 22, and it’s a killer way to start the Memorial Day weekend: Beck, Tame Impala, and Sharon Van Etten. The somewhat surprising decision to have Beck highlight the first night of Boston Calling leaves the Pixies and My Morning Jacket as likely headliners of the Saturday and Sunday slate, though the remaining weekend schedule won’t be revealed for a few weeks.

Last September’s Friday night lineup featured the National, Future Islands, and Neutral Milk Hotel.

THere’s also been a slight change to the lineup, as Grizfolk have bailed due to “an unforeseeable scheduling conflict,” and have been replaced by indie pop singer Halsey. For those in need of a Grizfolk fix, the Los Angeles/Sweden alt-band will be at the Middle East in Cambridge on Sunday.

Friday-night tickets and weekend passes to Boston Calling are on sale tomorrow, Friday February 6, at noon via bostoncalling.com. As we mentioned above, the schedules for Saturday and Sunday will be revealed at a later date.
