Still Alright: Ex-Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes peeks at the past in ‘Detroit’ video

When we last caught up with Gaz Coombes, the former Supergrass frontman was attempting to distance himself from Britpop, declaring there wouldn’t be any sort of reunion for the 20th anniversary of I Should Coco and stating that the whole Cool Britannia thing was “a bit overblown.”

It’s easy to move forward when the focus is new music, and earlier this week Coombes dropped a video for “Detroit”, a bouncy-but-matured single from his January solo record Matador. Incidentally enough, the video shows a man running from something, with Coombes’ face showing up on the back of the jogger’s hood looking back at what’s left behind.

Message? Or no.

“Detroit” is out April 6, and Coombes will play a bunch of UK gigs this spring in addition to some festival appearances like Liverpool Sound City (May 22 to 24) and Field Day in London (June 7). Check out his run of dates below and let’s hope for some stateside appearances by year’s end.
