Promised Rings: Super Furry Animals announce first live shows in six years, ‘Mwng’ reissue

Welsh, that escalated quickly.

Yesterday we noted a pair of mysterious online videos that hinted at a possible return of Super Furry Animals, who have been on hiatus since 2010. Today, the news is confirmed, as the proud Wales alt-rock crew announced their first shows in six years and the reissuing of 1999 album Mwng.

The Furries will play five United Kingdom dates this may, including two kickoff shows at Cardiff University on May 1 and 2. The full run of dates are below.

Frontman Gruff Rhys tells the NME: “It will be good just to play and hang out again. We’ll probably be doing a different set every night and songs off all our nine studio albums. We’ll be doing quite a lot of ‘Mwng’ because it’s fun to play, but probably not the whole thing.”

In addition to the live gigs, the band will reissue their fourth studio record, the Welsh-language LP Mwng, as a triple-vinyl, double-CD release for its 15th anniversary. As the NME notes, it will “contain five tracks previously released on the US version of Mwng under the name Mwng Bach as well as a previously unreleased John Peel session and a full live show recorded at ATP.”

The reissue drops May 1 via Domino.
