Rolling Green: Ecstasy and other drugs are legal in Ireland until Thursday

Thanks to a loophole in Ireland’s drug laws, ecstasy is currently legal in the land of saints and scholars until Thursday. Ketamine and crystal meth are also in the mix as drugs that currently aren’t a criminal offense in Ireland, but we’ll steer clear of those.

As for scoring E without repercussions, there’s gonna be a party in Dublin, we think.

Here’s word from Mixmag:

Well, here’s the story: the drug’s current status is down to a loophole in the law that opened up after the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977 was ruled void in the country earlier today. This is because some drugs were added to the Act without going through the Oireachtas (Irish parliament), with the Court of Appeal saying that move was “unconstitutional”.

The Health Minister’s set to look at the Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill tonight, but, according to The Journal, changes can only take effect a day after it’s signed.

As a result, right now it’s not a criminal offence to possess anything currently declared illegal (including ecstasy, ketamine and crystal meth) in the Act.

In case you’re wondering, Kayak.com is offering flights to Dublin tomorrow, with a stop at London’s Heathrow Airport, starting at $910.
