SXSW Boston & Beyond Artist Spotlight: O Conqueror take Austin by rock and roll storm

Welcome to the latest in a week-long series of spotlights profiling the bands and artists performing at the Boston & Beyond party at SXSW, a collaborative effort between Berklee College of Music and Vanyaland. Our second-annual event — and Berklee’s 10th SXSW party overall — goes down Thursday, March 19 at Austin’s Brush Square Park, 409 East 5th St., next to the Convention Center. The party is co-presented by Berklee Alumni, The Red Room @ Cafe 939, and Heavy Rotation Records, and is all ages and open to SXSW badge holders. The public can email sxswrsvp@berklee.edu to attend free of charge. An oyster bar will be provided by Island Creek Oysters, and VanyaRadio will be streaming all the performances. More info and music links can be found here.

In a recent SXSW profile of Hooka Hey we noted that this year’s Boston & Beyond party has a greater bit of local Austin flair than years past, and we weren’t fucking around. Saddling up next to the Hooka gents in a brotherhood of riffage is O Conqueror, a band that’s adding extra layers of rock and roll badassery to our eclectic event at Brush Square Park.

And O Conqueror know Austin. In their recent video for live-wire rock track “Lost Your Mind”, a single take rolls through the streets of Bat City. Earlier this week they threw down live on Fox 7 KTBC Good Day Austin, staking claim to a city’s scene that’s about to be overrun by outsiders. But at a time when the spotlight shines on Austin, O Conqueror are ready to grab some of that shine.

“O Conqueror’s sound is packed with emotion, great rhythm and echoing vocals…a definite head-turner in the smiley-happy music town of Austin!,” says Andres “AC” Cantu of 101x, with the Indie Sheep adding: “Simply put, O Conqueror is going to go places.”

Even producer and Blue October bassist Matt Noveskey has chimed in: “O Conqueror are one of those acts that makes a big impression on the first listen. Smart songs laced with clever hooks. A sense of honestly that is quite rare these days. ”

Time to rock it out.
