Muse are playing a game of “gotcha.”
Earlier this month the British band released “Psycho”, the first single off new album Drones that was hailed as a return to the rock and roll form of the trio’s early years. Everyone was all like “ZOMG MUSE R BACK YESSS WE H8 DUBSTEP MUSE!!!!!”
And now today they’ve dropped another Drones single, the industrial-esque “Dead Inside,” which sounds a lot of their electronic experimentations of recent years. It stomps along until the 2:25 mark, showing a bit of their later influences… until it suddenly shifts gear and blossoms into maybe the best and most dramatic piece of Muse music in a decade.
Glad we rode this one out.
