Jam Session: Saturday’s Super Freestyle Explosion concert will be a straight-up hit parade

When you have 10 bands or artists on any given bill in one day or night, the event becomes its own festival. And when it comes to festivals rolling into to Boston this year, few register on the “Holy Shit!” scale quite like Saturday’s Super Freestyle Explosion concert at Agganis Arena.

The night raises a glass as high as your Aquanet-held hair in tribute to the style of music that evolved from Latin hip-hop and electro-funk in dominating radio hit-station playlists in the mid- and late-’80s. And the Super Freestyle Explosion lineup is insane: Stevie B, Lisa Lisa, the original Cover Girls, Stacey Q, Exposé, Trinere, Nu Shooz, Connie, Debbie Deb, and JJ Fad.

On its own, hearing Stacey Q’s “Two Of Hearts” is bound to turn a room of any size into a dance party, but add in live performances of tracks like Exposé’s “Point Of No Return,” Lisa Lisa’s “Lost In Emotion” and “Can You Feel The Beat,” and Stevie B’s “Spring Love,” and now you have one hell of a Saturday night soundtrack.

The whole thing kind of snuck up on us, but luckily, we caught it not only in time to hit up Agganis this weekend, but to also bust out some of the best certified jams in dance music history. Peep the flyer for official information below, then roll with us 10-deep as we queue up our favorite tunes from each performing artist below.

Ticket’s to Saturday’s party are going fast, apparently, but some are still available.
