Panic On The Streets Of Boston: Here’s Morrissey hanging out on Morrissey Boulevard

Not sure about you guys, but every time we race up and down the Southeast Expressway past Morrissey Boulevard, we start singing the Smiths. And we often daydream about what it’d be like if one Steven Patrick Morrissey decided to cruise the Dorchester strip.

Turns out, it actually (probably) happened back in the ’80s.

The always-entertaining Dirty Old Boston posted the below photo to Facebook yesterday, allegedly of the Mozzer posing ever-so-nicely next to a street sign depicting his namesake. The photo is undated, but he looks a bit Smiths-y, and there’s no snow on the ground, so it might be around when the Smiths played the Boston Opera House on June 14, 1985.

But that’s just a random guess. As Dirty Old Boston would say, “Someone will know.”

Meanwhile, Morrissey plays Worcester’s Hanover Theatre on June 24, 10 days after the 30th anniversary of that Opera House gig.

Any Morrissey fans out there? Smiths fans? Here's one of Morrissey standing under the street sign for Morrissey Blvd sometime in the mid 80s. Submitted by Gigi Shea.
