V:Music First Listen: Class Actress, ‘More Than You’

It’s crazy to think that Class Actress‘ debut album Rapprocher came out four years ago, and even crazier to think that it’s been even longer since we first laid our ears, eyes and hearts on their breakthrough EP, Journal of Ardency. These have been lonely years encapsulated only within the breathy ache in vocalist Elizabeth Harper’s unmistakable purr, but today the Brooklyn noir-pop act return with the dazzling “More Than You.” Premiered via Fader about six minutes ago, the song evokes early Berlin while also touching on the modern synth-pop aspects that makes Class Actress so great. “I never wanted anything more than I want you,” Harper offers, and we’re reduced to a puddle. The synths that rise up from the heartbreak recall the seductive of “Journal of Ardency” with the bounce of “Careful What You Say,” this writer’s most beloved song of the past 15 years. Let’s hope we never experience another four years without Class Actress in our lives.
