C’Mere Boys & Girls: Stream the Shills’ new record ‘Keep Your Hands Busy: Vol.2’

Last time we checked in with the Shills, the Boston rock powerhouse were laying down the sexy in a cover of Ginuwine’s “Pony.” The left-field cover was one of the treats associated with the band’s Pledge campaign for new record Keep Your Hands Busy, Vol. 2, a successful crowd-funding drive that easily zoomed to a 106% completion rate at a time when people are generally over the notion of paying for anything.

But the Shills aren’t just another band looking for your money. With an uncanny ability to rock out in equal, high-level measure for crowds of anywhere between two or 2,000, the Shills are Boston’s “people’s” rock band. And tonight, the genre-bending quartet, who get the “prog” label by default of not really knowing how to peg them in a world where everything must be over-explained, show off the new album with a record release party at Brighton Music Hall in Allston.

The Shills will be joined by Beware The Dangers Of A Ghost Scorpion, Nemes, and OTP.

Because the Shills’ music is best enjoyed when you’re slightly aware of all its bends and turns and angles and shapes and stops and starts and screams and howls, stream Keep Your Hands Busy: Vol. 2 below via Soundcloud.

And take pride in the fact that this is the result of a true collaborative effort between a band and its supporters. Though we’ve been playing tracks like “Oh, This Devilish Place” and “Some They Try,” the standout might be deeper cut “Jar,” a sleek number that explodes in the type of ’90s alt-rock joy reserved for only the most special of occasions.

Like, tonight.
