V:Music First Listen: Eloise Keating, ‘Working Late’

Young singer-songwriter Eloise Keating may not be a household name yet, but give it time. And by time, we mean about four minutes and two seconds, the length of the British musician’s new single “Working Late.” Premiered today on Hilly Dilly and posted to her Soundcloud less than an hour ago, “Working Late” is a startling display of disaffected cool, similar to Lana Del Rey but without the insidious backstory and a bit more bubbling under the pop surface. “Working Late” is a polished, moody number that suggests big things are in store for Keating, and after a few listens we’re not sure what point in the day this track is best heard; it’s both an optimistic morning riser and a somber nightcap. In the end, we’re all “Working Late.”
