Some songs are easy to cover and reinterpret. Other songs are pretty much impossible when it comes to topping the original. When it dropped last year, Sia’s “Chandelier” felt like one of those pop anthems a few bands would try to cover, only to fail to capture the raw energy and emotion so effortlessly conveyed by the award-winning Australian songwriter and singer.
And then we heard PVRIS‘ take on it.
Recorded for an extension of Fearless Records’ Punk Goes Pop Vol. 6 compilation, the Lowell-born trio take “Chandelier” to new heights — which is pretty impressive — and vocalist Lynn Gunn owns the song in a way that should make Sia proud. The song is officially out tomorrow via iTunes, the day PVRIS plays in Mesa, Arizona, as part of their lengthy trek on the Vans Warped Tour.
The party comes to the Xfinity Center in Mansfield on July 14, and you can expect PVRIS to be swinging from the chandeliers of Interstate 95 to help mark the hometown gig.
