Vanyaland Premiere: Listen to the Symptoms get ‘Buried’ in layers of experimental pop

We’ve been sweet on the experimental pop sounds of the Symptoms for a few years now, ever since the first few strains of cosmic 2012 single “Don’t Leave” tumbled out of our WFNX-fed speakers.

With more than two years since their last official release, 2013’s Contrasts, the ever-evolving Boston quartet is back this week with a new album, Lens, set for release this Thursday at Great Scott.

Last week Allston Pudding went behind-the-scenes with the Symptoms for a teaser look at the making of their debut LP, and today we are thrilled to premiere the record’s first single, “Buried”.

It’s a chilled-out, twitchy, black-and-white cinematic spin around experimental pop, threatening to fall to pieces in parts but never straying too far from its head-beat center. It gets a little weird three-quarters in, but don’t we all?

Thursday’s release party, it should be noted, is an Illegally Blind production, and also features Skinny Bones and Tall Juan. Get more info here, and listen to “Buried” via Soundcloud below…
