Soul Slides Away: Watch Ruby Rose Fox reinvent Oasis’ ’90s classic ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’

A few weeks ago a young band from the Boston suburbs were brazen enough to hand Noel Gallagher a demo CD in the middle of the former Oasis guitarist’s show at the Opera House. The story made global headlines, mostly because the band didn’t label their compact discs, a move that sent Gallagher into a friendly rant filled with the acerbic verbal jabs we’ve come to love and expect from him.

We don’t know if Gallagher ever listened to the demos, but we like to think he did. We also would like to think this will get between his ears as well: Ruby Rose Fox covering Oasis’ 1995 Britpop anthem “Don’t Look Back In Anger.”

The cover, stripped down to the basics of Ruby’s powerfully haunting voice and lone guitar, was released to YouTube this morning to promote the performer’s ongoing Pledge Music campaign, which will fund her debut album. Part of the Pledge perks include donors selecting songs for Ruby Rose Fox to cover, and this should serve as a nice bit of inspiration for folks to get involved.

Not that inspiration should be needed here. After being named Female Vocalist of the Year in 2014’s Boston Music Awards, Ruby Rose Fox was just deemed the best musician in town in the Improper Boston’s 2015 Boston’s Best issue, and has a series of ace shows coming up, including this Friday at the Music Hall in Portsmouth, July 25 at the Cabot Theatre in Beverly, and August 28 at the Sinclair with Sidewalk Driver, the Lights Out, and others.
